Role Overview
We are looking for:
- An APAC Environmental Manager to be part of our Industrial Function at Solvay. The Industrial Function is a transversal function of the Solvay Group. Our mission is to support the GBUs in their industrial activities. We help them to design, to build and to operate their plants in an efficient and secure mode. We support them in the research of Excellence, in the management of the Industrial Family and take care of their environmental legacies.
- This role will report into the Global HSE/SEC Director and will be a member of the Group HSE leadership team.
- This position is responsible for supporting the design and implementation of Group Environmental policies and procedures, having specific expertise/competency, and working collaboratively with his/her counterparts in other regions of the world in the following environmental topics: Compliance, Remediation, and Sustainability.
We count on you for:
- Support a collaborative approach to Environmental topics in the APAC region (and with the other regions)
- Develop member of his/her team - ability to manage teams remotely
- Lead the APAC Environmental team
- Support sites with regulatory compliance, implementation of Group Environmental procedures, environmental performance issues, remediation activities, and environmental auditing.
- Environmental assessments for CAPEX projects in excess of 4 M Eur
- Ensure appropriate representation on external environmental committees (in collaboration with the businesses and other HSE domains)
- Prepare and follow the Environmental budget (remediation, operation, sustainability) in APAC
- Represent Solvay with regulatory bodies on questions related to activities impacting the environment
- Ensure reporting of environmental performance (e.g. SERF) and support the development of the non-financial annual report
- Evaluate and recommend third party companies (environmental service providers, digital tools, etc)

You will bring:
- Experienced in team Management, should demonstrate high leadership skills
- Specific Expertise and Competencies in Environmental regulations (China preferred)
- Bachelor's Degree required in Engineering, Chemistry, or HSE, Master’s preferred.
- 15 years of working experience in the Industrial field, preferably with some time spent in both an HSE position and a plant (non-HSE) position.
- Fully aligned with ECo behaviors
- Able to motivate team to deliver Group environmental vision in an inclusive and collaborative manner, including leading by example.
- Ability to manage, motivate and lead a team of direct reports
- Ability to use impact and influence effectively to ensure sites and businesses deliver on ECo's environmental goals and objectives
- Ability to manage upward in the organization and work effectively with other departments (e.g. Finance, Businesses, Sustainable Development, etc.)
- Curious/Inquisitive, actively seeks opportunities to improve the overall efficiency while eliminating non-value added work
- Practical knowledge and experience in the environmental domain
- Viewed as an expert by the authorities in China (i.e. competent to exchange with authorities)
- Basic understanding of financial principles
- Basic understanding of environmental regulations
- Plant experience and project management a plus
- Fluent in Chinese and English
